Local Business Spotlight: Budget Pro Bicycles

TERA is spotlighting Eagle Rock small businesses to support our neighborhood’s recovery from the pandemic. For July 2021, we’re featuring Budget Pro Bicycles, including an interview with co-owner, Michelle Leigsring-Quiroa. Along with her husband Oscar and son Christian, this family-owned and operated bike shop has been serving Eagle Rock since 1979!

What is your favorite place in Eagle Rock? 

Honestly, my favorite place is Pete’s Blue Chip. I shouldn’t admit this but we probably eat there at least 4 times out of the week!

What is your favorite item in your store? 

This is tough. There are a few items, but our old school vibe of 80’s memorabilia throughout the store—from bikes, to posters, to jerseys—are pretty cool.

What items or services do you provide that might be a surprise to the Eagle Rock community?

Don’t let the name fool you… We have an excellent selection of bikes from entry level recreational riding to FULL CARBON DI2 equipped bicycles for those advanced riders, along with lots of parts, accessories and apparel.

What else do you want to share with Eagle Rock? 

Our repair department has one of the best reputations around for servicing high end road bikes. Our mechanics have been with us for years and know our regular customers likes and dislikes. We pride ourselves on good customer service and that you’ll always see a familiar face. Thank you Eagle Rock for all your support!!

Local Business Spotlight: Found Coffee

TERA is spotlighting Eagle Rock businesses to support our neighborhood’s recovery from the pandemic. For May 2021, we’re featuring Found Coffee, including an interview with owner Annie Choi:

What is your favorite place in Eagle Rock? 

Honestly, any of the tree-lined streets are my favorite — I call them tree tunnels. The ones that span from Colorado upwards towards Hill Dr. give me much joy.

What is your favorite item in your store? 

I love our rotating roster of California coffee roasters. California has a plethora of amazing coffee roasters, and I’m proud to represent Demitasse, Peri, and Stereoscope in our regular line-up for many years. In terms of merchandise, I love our limited edition Artist Totebag featuring Kalene Castillo. One side of the totebag features one of my favorite drawings of the shop ever done by her, and the other side has our classic logo. 

What else do you want to share with Eagle Rock? 

Thank you for rallying around us in constant love and support, especially after four break-ins. I feel very fortunate that we’re located in a community that fervently supports local. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

To our members and the Eagle Rock community, TERA officially endorses the Beautiful Boulevard plan to make BRT on Colorado Blvd work for all members of our community. We also believe there must be funding support for our businesses impacted by the project’s construction and a plan to deter potential cut-through traffic in the neighborhood. Local Business Spotlight: Leanna Lin’s Wonderland

TERA is spotlighting Eagle Rock businesses to support our neighborhood’s recovery from the pandemic. For April 2021, we’re featuring Leanna Lin’s Wonderland, including an interview with owner Leanna Lin:

What is your favorite place in Eagle Rock? 

I really enjoy walks around Occidental College campus with our dogs. It’s such a beautiful place to walk and the trails above have great views of the city too!

What is your favorite item in your store? 

Momiji message dolls are something that I’ve personally collected even before I opened the shop. They are a special collection to me. 

What else do you want to share with Eagle Rock? 

Thank You for your local support for over 10 years here in Eagle Rock! We are open for in-store shopping, along with online shopping for shipping, and pick up. 

Also, I’m really looking forward to our next group art show called Wonderpets 3 (running May 22, 2021-July 3, 2021), which is our annual pet themed show benefiting Home Dog L.A, an intervention center inside of the North Central Animal Shelter.

Support for Vidiots

The Eagle Rock Association wholeheartedly supports the Vidiots Foundation’s application for a conditional use permit for the use and sale of alcohol in conjunction with the proposed renovation of the Eagle Theatre at 4884 N. Eagle Rock Boulevard. TERA believes this proposed development is a critical component of the renovation and re-imagining of Eagle Rock Boulevard.

Remove Councilman Huizar

Yesterday, TERA requested the City Council to take action to remove our Councilperson, José Huizar, from office. Given the allegations and criminal charges levied against him, we believe he should no longer serve as our City representative.

Take Back the Boulevard

Improvements related to TERA’s Take Back the Boulevard initiative continue to be made along Colorado Boulevard. The City is currently in Phase II of the project which includes street improvements such as new curb ramps and sidewalk repairs.
 
The City recently completed work near the intersection at Colorado Boulevard and Mount Helena Avenue. Depicted in the pictures above is ongoing work at Colorado Boulevard and Floristan Avenue.
 
Take Back the Boulevard, while conceived by TERA, has been a collaborative effort between us, Council District 14, the Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services, the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council, and the community of Eagle Rock with the end goal of making Colorado Boulevard safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.

Road Improvements: Wawona & El Roble

Beginning this week the Bureau of Street Services will initiate the final phase of roadway improvements on Wawona Street at El Roble Drive by installing new concrete streets. Lanes may be closed at times.
 
Temporary “No Parking” signs should be posted on the street at least 24 hours before the actual work begins and notices should be provided to residents and businesses impacted by the operation.
 
You should remove your vehicles from the street to protect them from damage by construction debris and to prevent interference with the planned work. The “No Parking” signs should be removed and vehicular parking restored once the project has been completed.

Give Feedback on Slow Streets in Eagle Rock

In March 2020, TERA was approved as a local sponsor for one of the first four “Slow Streets” implementations in Los Angeles. Slow Streets is a temporary program that enables residents to maintain physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program has already been very well-received by local residents as it enables access to exercise and fresh air while discouraging aggressive driving at a time when speeding has increased on local streets.

We would like to hear from you! Please let us know your thoughts after you’ve experienced one of these streets in person so we can get the City to improve and address any issues.
