Introducing L.A. Al Fresco

Mayor Garcetti recently launched  L.A. Al Fresco, a new program to temporarily provide expanded outdoor dining opportunities for restaurants as dine-in services are allowed but with limits on capacity. L.A. Al Fresco aims to help businesses reopen while allowing customers and employees to maintain the physical distance recommended by public health officials by temporarily relaxing the rules that regulate outdoor dining. This will enable restaurants to expand their potential service despite limited indoor space.

The City is offering streamlined, immediate approval for eligible restaurants to provide outdoor dining in the following areas:

  • Sidewalks
  • Private Parking Lots

If you are a business, apply here to immediately use sidewalks and/or private parking lots for dining space

The City is also collecting expressions of interest from restaurants, groups of restaurants or entities such as Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), Business Associations, and Chambers of Commerce to potentially expand the program to the following outdoor areas at a later date:

  • Street Parking Spaces (Parklets)
  • Partial and Full Street Closures

Please also contact TERA if you are interested in utilizing parklets or partial/full street closures and we will work with you to support your request.

President’s Message on StorQuest

TERA recently released a letter of support for the proposed StorQuest storage facility located at 2803 W. Broadway, the former Ernie Jr.’s site. TERA’s support of this project has been controversial so I would like to shed some light on our position.

One concern that I have heard raised is that TERA has changed its position on the project. However, If you read our initial letter of January 26th, you will see that TERA always supported the storage-facility use. Our initial non-support of the project was based on the fact that an expedited process had been put in place and that did not give the community time to effectively evaluate the project and give constructive feedback. Our other concern was that size and scope of the project needed to be counterbalanced by community benefit. Given that there was little time to reconcile these issues prior to the applicant’s initial hearing, TERA decided they could not support the project.

TERA’s Position on Self-Storage Facility

TERA has issued a letter opposing the proposed self-storage facility at 2803 W. Broadway. While TERA does not oppose the self-storage use, we do feel that a project of this scale should provide a greater community benefit.
