Taco Bell Update

At its hearing on July 25th, the East Los Angeles Area Planning Commission approved revisions to the Taco Bell site project at Colorado Boulevard and La Roda Avenue as part of a compromise that Nader Ashoori (the owner) reached with The Eagle Rock Association (TERA). The compromise reflects important changes to the site’s redesign and includes pedestrian safety enhancements, redesigned vehicular circulation, robust landscaping, and additional trash receptacles.

President’s Message on StorQuest

TERA recently released a letter of support for the proposed StorQuest storage facility located at 2803 W. Broadway, the former Ernie Jr.’s site. TERA’s support of this project has been controversial so I would like to shed some light on our position.

One concern that I have heard raised is that TERA has changed its position on the project. However, If you read our initial letter of January 26th, you will see that TERA always supported the storage-facility use. Our initial non-support of the project was based on the fact that an expedited process had been put in place and that did not give the community time to effectively evaluate the project and give constructive feedback. Our other concern was that size and scope of the project needed to be counterbalanced by community benefit. Given that there was little time to reconcile these issues prior to the applicant’s initial hearing, TERA decided they could not support the project.

Pillarhenge Development

The special significance of the proposed development at 1332 Colorado Boulevard (aka Pillerhenge) is clear to the TERA Board. For those exiting the freeway, this is the first major structure that will be seen. For new visitors, to a degree, it will set the tone for expectations as they drive further into our community.

Bringing Vidiots to Eagle Rock

Vidiots APC Hearing

TERA was an early supporter for Vidiots Foundation’s plan to restore the historic Eagle Theatre at the intersection of Eagle Rock Boulevard and Yosemite Drive.

In August 2020, the City of Los Angeles wrongly applied onerous and unfair conditions of operation on Vidiots which would make Vidiots’ operation infeasible and take away funding from Vidiots programming.

Determined to right this wrong and ensure Vidiots’ long term success, TERA filed an appeal to remove these incorrectly applied conditions in September 2020. In December 2020, the East Area Planning Commission approved TERA’s appeal and unanimously voted to eliminate unfair conditions that the City had imposed on Vidiots. Due to a frivolous lawsuit against Vidiots by a disgruntled homeowner, TERA would end up twice more organizing community voices to communicate support for Vidiots in February 2023 and finally in October 2023, both times achieving unanimous approval from the East Area Planning Commission for reduced requirements on Vidiots.

Vidiots at the Eagle Theatre

Vidiots opened in June 2023 and has been a thorough success. TERA is proud to have played a part in helping to bring Vidiots to Eagle Rock, and to help ensure Vidiots’ long term success at the historic Eagle Theatre.
